SIKEM SILICA FUME

Silica fume is a byproduct of producing silicon metal or ferrosilicon alloys. Silicon metal and alloys are produced in electric furnaces. The raw materials are quartz, coal, and woodchips. The smoke that results from furnace operation is collected and sold as silica fume, rather than being landfilled. Silica fume consists primarily of amorphous (non-crystalline) silicon dioxide (SiO2), its average granule diameter is 0.15~0.20 µm, specific surface area is 15000~20000m2/kg, and it has extremely strong surface active. Because of its fine particles, large surface area, and the high SiO2 content, silica fume is a very reactive pozzolan when used in concrete. At the same time, silica fume can still be used in the production of refractory and porcelain; to raise intensity and durability .it can also improve the material overall performance as a filler, used in paint, coating, resin, rubber and other high molecular material.

Product features

Silicon micro powder has been used to improve refractories for more than 40 years. SIKEM silicon micro powder will have the following characteristics when used in refractories:

Improve the fluidity of castable refractories, reduce water consumption, make them easy to form, and greatly improve production efficiency;

The compactness and strength of refractories have been greatly improved due to the interstitial filling effect of their ultra structure;

SIKEM silica with high activity in the Al 2 O 3 components exist under the premise easier to produce mullite phase, the refractory high-temperature strength, thermal shock resistance was improved.

At present, it is widely used in castable refractories, as well as in electric melting and sintering refractories.

SIKEM silica micro powder is used in concrete and has the following unique advantages:

Manufacture high-grade concrete (above C70) to significantly improve the strength and pumping performance of concrete;

Manufacture high impermeable (≥ P30) and structural self waterproof concrete for basements of subways, tunnels and high-rise buildings;

Manufacturing marine and chemical concrete, due to its high density, can effectively prevent sulfate and chloride ions from penetrating and eroding concrete, and prevent concrete reinforcement from being corroded, thus extending the service life of concrete;

In water conservancy and bridge projects, concrete not only needs the above basic indicators, but also has very strict requirements for its wear resistance and erosion resistance. It is necessary to add SIKEM silica fume;

Early strength and high strength concrete required by rapid construction;

High strength shotcrete used for supporting during the construction of tunnels, subways and large foundation pit structures;

Concrete for underwater construction projects (such as piers, dams, drilling platforms, etc.);

Pavement concrete for expressways and large bridges

Usage and precautions of SIKEM silicon powder

Applied to refractory materials

According to the different properties of refractory raw materials, orthogonal design is carried out. Through comparative tests, the best formula is selected. The technical experts of Siken Company can assist the refractory plant to carry out work. Refractory materials usually use non densified silica powder or semi densified silica powder.

Applied to high performance concrete

Mix design

1. Compatibility: SIKEM silicon micro powder has good compatibility with water reducer, fly ash, mineral powder, fiber, etc

2. Slump: due to its caulking effect, the viscosity of concrete is high, so the design requirement for the slump of concrete mixed with silica fume is 2~3cm higher than that of ordinary concrete

3. The mixing time of concrete mixed with silica fume is 30~40S longer than that of ordinary concrete to obtain good uniformity.

When SIKEM silicon powder is used as a pump aid, the amount of mixing is reduced to about 2%.

Determine the final mix proportion through mix proportion test.

Feeding and mixing

1. Generally, the concrete industry uses densified SIKEM silica micro powder, so manual feeding or automatic feeding can be selected.

2. Due to the unique ultra-fine characteristics of silica micro powder, SIKEM silica micro powder is required to be put into the concrete immediately after the aggregate is fed, and it is not allowed to add powdered silica micro powder into the properly mixed concrete.

3. The mixing time of concrete mixed with silica fume is 30~40S longer than that of ordinary concrete to obtain good uniformity.

4. There is no special requirement for the transportation of concrete mixed with SIKEM silica fume, which is the same as ordinary concrete.

Pouring and curing

1. The vibration of silica fume concrete shall be dense, without missing vibration, under vibration or over vibration. The general vibrating time is 10~30S;

2. Continuous supply of concrete is required to prevent cold joints from causing hidden dangers. The splicing time shall not exceed 100MIN

3. It is very important to prevent the premature evaporation of water during the curing of silica fume concrete. Therefore, after pouring, immediately cover the film, lay sacks and water for curing

4. According to the specific situation of the project, the company will provide a detailed construction plan for the reference of the commercial concrete manufacturer and the construction unit, and the company can arrange the field engineer to the site to cooperate with the construction

In addition to the unique advantages of using SIKEM silica fume in refractories and high-performance concrete as described above, Siken is also cooperating with R&D institutions in the fields of coatings, paints, rubber and plastics to expand the application scope of SIKEM silica fume and contribute to the development of material science and technology and the national economy.
